Route 666

Route 666 is a one-way route in MotorStorm: Apocalypse, where the penultimate segment of the Festival takes place.

This is the second duel in Apocalypse after the first duel between Tyler and Muerte to escape the City alive. In this segment, Big Dog rides his chopper along this route to lead a DuskLite helicopter away from the Carrier.

During the start of the Festival, Big Dog rides on this exact same route, under similar circumstances except that it is on the First Day of the Festival. Shortly thereafter, Mash and Tyler take similar pathways.

The course itself consists of some segments of highway, and a harbour, as well as the edge of a very sharp drop-off to an earthquake-created valley. This also consist of an earthquake-created canyon, which the walls of it on the far right will tumble down into the abyss while portions of it will rise up. When you reach the harbour and you get back to the main road, you can watch as The City rises up into the air as the Big One reaches critical mass. If you fail to escape the the gunship, then you get a good view as the City is destroyed by the quake.

Notable Destruction and Hazards[]

  • Throughout the race, a DuskLite gunship will fire at the player.
  • Along the straightaway towards the large fissure, the helicopter will fire rockets at the track in alternating patteren between left and right, leaving craters in the ground.
  • During the fissure segment, landslides occur.
  • Caused by the aforementioned landslides, the tunnel will partially collapse.
  • After exiting the tunnel, the DuskLite helicopter will fire rockets at the supports of the elevated road, causing it to collapse.
  • After jumping off the boat into the embankment, tremors will cause a crane to partially collapse.
  • On the final stretch, a smoke stack will collapse onto the track.

Walkthrough[]

  • You are being chased by a DuskLite helicopter! Boost carefully and listen for the alarm, as you may come under fire!
  • On the road at the start, eleven missiles will be fired at the road, forming dome ramps that you can use to catch air and air-cool your engine a little.
  • The road is still blocked by the vehicles from last time you were here, so you'll have to make a right turn to the canyon ridge again.
  • Watch out, the canyon is undergoing a landslide! Stay away from the edge and watch for falling rocks.
  • Just as you see the highway tunnel, you'll quickly recognize the arrow signs from Mash's prologue. However, the right two have cut out, which is a subtle hint to stay to the left of the yellow lane lines here; the right side of the tunnel will collapse.
  • When you exit the highway tunnel, the helicopter will shoot the bridge and cause it to fall. Although the road is now distorted and resting on the ground, you can still drive on it and it's still pretty flat, so there's no cause for alarm.
  • Near the dock, flares will lead you off the road and over a ramp. Jump straight so you land on the boat.
  • When you jump off the boat, the Big One will greatly but slowly raise the city in the background. It is a spectacle to behold, but keep your eyes on the road.
  • One of the cranes has collapsed and blocked the dock, so you will have to go around it through the dried-up water bed to the left.
  • Just as you go under the arch of containers (marked by a downward-pointing electric arrow sign), a smokestack will collapse and block half the road. Keep right to avoid it. A cutscene will begin as soon as you pass under the highway sign.

Trivia[]

  • The DuskLite helicopter will chase and fire rockets and bullets at Big Dog as it follows him along this route.
  • The number 666, chosen as a play on the famous U.S. Route 66, is often associated with the number of the Beast from the Book of Revelations.
  • This route is not available for selection in Wreckreation.
  • This is the one of three tracks in the game that do not have Festival Cards.
  • Ironically, the DuskLite gunship has appeared in two other tracks before this one.
  • This track, along with Prologue, are based on the Presidio district in San Francisco.
